The New Stage of the Bolshoi Theatre, during the XII International Competition of Ballet Dancers and Choreographers in Moscow

There were slight changes in the program of the competition. The junior group participants had to dance an essential traditional Russian ballet school element. The Contest of choreographers was based on contemporary pieces, solo, and ensemble specially staged for this competition.

The XII International Competition of Ballet Dancers and Choreographers was opened on June 10 on the Bolshoi Theatre Historic stage. The Opening Ceremony included a performance of the ballet Giselle. The starring dancer was Svetlana Zakharova, a Jury Member, a people's artist of Russia, a prima donna of the Bolshoi Theatre, and La Scala opera house in Milan.

The winners of the first prize in the junior group in 2013 were Elvina Ibraimova (Russia), Ksenia Ryzhkova (Russia), Fogarti Miko (Switzerland), and Timofejs Andrijasenko (Latvia). In the senior group, David Zaleyev (Russia), Bondareva Oksana (Russia), and Askerov Timur (Azerbaijan) won the first prize and the gold medal.

Oksana Bondareva (Russia), winner of the XII International Competition of Ballet Dancers and Choreographers in Moscow, first prize, gold medal

This competition has shown that it is becoming important among choreographers. Each Contest is a hope to see future reformers of the world and the Russian ballet scene. However, in 2013, no fascinating and original work was presented. Therefore, the Jury decided not to award the first prize and the gold medal. The second prize and the silver medal went to Oleg Gabyshev (Russia) for his facetious choreography Macho and Sloth. The third prize and the bronze medal were awarded to Marina Akelkina (Russia) for her performances Chimera and Loveless and to Dmitry Zalessky (Belarus) for his composition Game. It was also decided to award diplomas, accomplishment buttons, and incentive prizes to four Russian participants: Ksenia Oiventhal, Vladimir Varnava, Alexander Runt, and Emil Faski.

During the Contest, a press center, creative meetings, workshops, masterclasses, and exhibitions were held. Four press conferences were organized, at which the Jury and the press expressed their views on the achievements of the choreographic arts presented in the competition and summarized the results.

The XII International Competition of Ballet Dancers and Choreographers ended up on June 19 at the Bolshoi Theatre Historic stage with an Award Ceremony and Gala Concert of the winners. It was broadcasted by the channel Russia-K.

"The experience of communication, the experience of mutual interaction between different schools, everything that participants will see and receive here, they will carry through their lives".

Lyudmila Semeniaka, ballet dancer and teacher, winner of the I International Competition of Ballet Dancers in Moscow

“For me, it was the highlight of my creative life. I had a completely different life after the competition. Whoever wins this competition has, sort of, new opportunities opening up. The person starts to feel completely different. If an artist makes an impression, represents something, then, of course, all the doors are open to him”.

Viacheslav Gordeev, Head of the Organizing Committee of the 2013 competition, winner of the II International Competition of Ballet Dancers in Moscow

"The competition is not a performance, it awakens other emotions, and you dance with different feelings. I think every dancer should try it".

Timur Askerov, winner of the XII International Competition of Ballet Dancers and Choreographers
