XIII International Ballet Competition and choreographers will be held in Moscow at the State Academic Bolshoi Theatre of Russia from June 10th to 20th 2017. The founders of the competition is the Russian government and Ministry of Culture of the Russian Federation. The organization is managed by Federal Directorate of Performing Arts "ROSCONCERT". The XIII International Ballet Competition and Contest of Choreogrpahers is held in the year of the 90th anniversary of Yuri Nikolayevich Grigorovich and precedes the Year of the Russian Ballet (2018) and the 200th anniversary of Marius Petipa.
The organizing committee of the competition was headed by the Deputy Chairman of the Government of the Russian Federation Olga Yurievna Golodets. As a result of the meeting of the Organizing Committee, two Grand Prixs were declared unprecedented in the history of the competition: $ 100,000 in the nomination "Ballet dancers" and $ 100,000 in the nomination "Choreographers".
The main events of the contest will be:
11.06, 18.00 - Press conference on the opening of the competition;
11.06, 19.00 - Opening. Suite from ballets staged by Y. Grigorovich
18.06, 17.00 - Session of the X General Jubilee Assembly of the International Federation of Ballet Competitions, working under the auspices of UNESCO;
20.06, 18.00 - Ceremony of awarding winners and a gala concert of the winners.
During the competition, it is also planned to meet with the media of the jury members and participants of the competition (the time will be informed additionally).
On April 17, 2017 the applications for participation in the contest were in. A total of 278 applications from 28 countries were submitted. According to the results of the qualifying round, 200 people (170 participants in the nomination "Ballet dancers" and 30 participants in the nomination "Choreographers") from 27 countries (Venezuela, USA, Ukraine, Brazil, South Korea, Germany, China Argentina, Japan, Italy, Latvia, Armenia, Cuba, Kyrgyzstan, Finland, Portugal, Mexico, Tajikistan, Kazakhstan, Albania, Panama, South Africa, Great Britain, Sweden, Moldova, Canada, Russia Participants from Russia represent cities - Moscow, Voronezh, Novosibirsk, Perm, Syktyvkar, Yakutsk, Krasnoyars , Ufa, Izhevsk, St. Petersburg, Krasnodar, Yoshkar-Ola.

International Ballet Competition was established after the Tchaikovsky competition in 1969 and soon became a significant phenomenon in the art world of choreography. The competition is held every four years. At the origin of its creation were present legends of Russian ballet: Galina Ulanova , the Chairman of the Jury of the I Competition, Igor Moiseyev, who led the Organizing Committee, Olga Lepeshinskaya the Chairman of the Organizing Committee of many other subsequent competitions. Since 1973, great choreographer Yuri Grigorovich is the permanent chairman of the jury and artistic director of the competition. The current competition is held in the year of his 90th anniversary and anticipates the Year of Russian Ballet (2018) and the 200th anniversary of Marius Petipa.
