The “Ballet Olympics” will be held at the Bolshoi Theatre of Russia this time next year

The XIVth International Ballet Competition and Contest of Choreographers had been scheduled for July 2021, but then was postponed till 2022 because of the coronavirus pandemic. In 2022 one of the world’s most prestigious ballet events will celebrate the 95th anniversary of a legendary choreographer and the artistic director of the Competition, People’s Artist of the USSR Yuriy Grigorovich.

The concept of the Competition reflects the universally acknowledged traditions of the Russian Art and the Russian school of classical ballet. Preparation for this contest boosts each participant to huge self-challenge and professional growth. Circle of high professionals, a chance to be discovered by the distinguished panel of judges will help young ballet dancers to make a new step on the way to perfection.

Every four years each new competition shows us the panorama of how classical ballet is developing in different countries of the world, and our great hope is that the next Competition will have its traditional entrance on to the legendary Historical stage of the Bolshoi Theatre.

This promising and extensive project with more than a half-century history was founded in 1969 by great dance masters — Galina Ulanova, Igor Moiseyev and Yuriy Grigorovich. Focusing on development of traditions of the Russian ballet and support for the talented young dancers, the Moscow ballet competition is widely regarded as one of the most significant world ballet events”.

July, 1, 2021 The XIVth International Ballet Competition and Contest of Choreographers starts a new website. It contains a unique Retrospectives section, where the whole competition history from its very beginning in 1969 is chronicled in an exclusive video and photo content.

The Competition is supported by the Government of Russian Federation and the Ministry of Culture of Russian Federation.
