Show The Magic of Russian Ballet to be presented in Mauritius and the Seychelles

Russian dancers will perform on 26 and 28 July in the capitals of the Republic of Mauritius and the Republic of Seychelles. The concert program, "The Magic of Russian Ballet," will feature winners of national and international competitions and soloists from the ballet companies of the State Academic Bolshoi Theater of Russia, the State Academic Mariinsky Theater, the Krasnoyarsk State Opera and Ballet Theater named after D. A. Hvorostovsky, the Sevastopol State Opera and Ballet Theater, and the Moscow Classical Ballet Theater.

On 26 July, the performance will take place in Port Louis (Republic of Mauritius) at the Caudan Arts Centre, and on 28 July – in Victoria, on the stage of the International Conference Centre Seychelles.

The program features classics: Pas de deux from Tchaikovsky's ballet The Nutcracker (choreography by V. Vainonen), Pas de deux from Adam's ballet Giselle (choreography by J. Perrot, J. Coralli, M. Petipa), Variation of Princess Florine Pas de deux from Tchaikovsky's ballet The Sleeping Beauty (choreography by M. Petipa), Choreographic miniature The Dying Swan by C. Saint-Saëns (choreography by M. Fokine), Dance of the Little Swans (choreography by M. Petipa, L. Ivanov), Black Pas de deux (choreography by M. Petipa) and Russian Dance (choreography by M. Petipa) from Tchaikovsky's Swan Lake, Pas de deux from Asafiev's ballet Flames of Paris (choreography by V. Vainonen), as well as Grand pas from the ballet Don Quixote by Minkus by L. Minkus (choreography by M. Petipa, A. Gorsky).

The Magic of Russian Ballet will be presented to the audience by soloists of the Mariinsky Theatre Elena Svinko and Ruslan Stenyushkin, Honored Artist of the Russian Federation Yuri Kudryavtsev and Anna Kudryavtseva (Krasnoyarsk Dmitri Hvorostovsky Opera and Ballet Theatre), soloists of the Sevastopol State Opera and Ballet Theatre Ksenia Ryzhkova and Dmitry Sobolevsky, soloists of the Moscow Classical Ballet Theatre Alexandra Koksharova, Victoria Laskina, Ekaterina Razgovorova and Ekaterina Karpukova, and soloists of the Bolshoi Theatre of Russia Ulyana Moksheva and Akib Anvar.

On 28 July, the exhibition The Bolshoi Theatre: Through Time will open at the Seyshelles National Library in Victoria. For the first time in its 250-year history, the Bolshoi Theatre of Russia will present a major project in Africa. It coincides with three anniversaries: the 250th anniversary of the Bolshoi Theatre of Russia, the 50th anniversary of the independence of the Republic of Seychelles, and the 50th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations between Russia and the Seychelles. Costumes from The Nutcracker, La Bayadère, La Sylphide, A Life for the Tsar, The Legend of the Invisible City of Kitezh and the Maiden Fevronia, and other productions will form the central cluster of the exhibition. Archival photographs, lithographs, and set designs will also be on display. Visitors will be able to trace the main stages of the Bolshoi Theatre's development from the mid-19th century to the present day, and get acquainted with historical productions and the works of outstanding artists—Konstantin Korovin, Ilya Glazunov, Simon Virsaladze, and other masters who shaped the artistic image of Russian musical theatre.

In addition, three students from the St. Petersburg Stieglitz State Academy of Art and Design will travel to Mauritius as part of the Russian Cultural Events program. They will create plein-air sketches and paintings. Three artists from the Republic of Mauritius will also visit St. Petersburg in August to undertake plein-air internships and explore the city.
